UPDATE: August 6, 2013
Well, I made it, I’m here in France and will be living here for four months. I’m looking forward to all the adventures on this journey

Bon jour!

Thank you for visiting my blog: The France Project

I love France, and just about everything French. French food, French wine, speaking French, the French culture and especially French people.

I am starting this blog as a way to document my endeavor to move to France in the next 18-21 months. I’ll blog about preparing for the move, the challenges I encounter along the way; and once I’m there, I will continue my blog and write about my day-to-day life, people I meet and my adventures as an expat!

For now, I live in a fabulous 1940’s apartment building in East Sacramento, California.  It reminds me of an apartment that I would find in Paris. I actually downsized my living space from a three bedroom house to this one bedroom apartment a little over a year ago as a step towards simplifying and learning to live with a little less space, but a lot more happiness.  My apartment is located in a downtown area with amazing restaurants, cafés, florists, bakeries and bars, the streets are lined with fully grown trees (factoid: Sacramento is 2nd only to Paris for the number of trees in the city). Best of all, my windows look out over a beautiful park with active people walking their dogs, jogging, biking, playing tennis, picnicking and enjoying the outdoors.

I’m sure I have a lot to learn about making an International move, so if you have any experiences your like to share, or suggestions, advice or comments, I’d love to hear (read) them.

Au revoir for now,

Deborah

  1. Thanks so much for visiting and following my blog! I appreciate it very much. You’re on an interesting journey – I look forward to following it! 😀

  2. Hello there, I don’t see a “contact me button” so I don’t know how to contact you in a less public manner… Seems you have a broken link to us on your piece “Taking care of your Mail…” – it’s the link to our website RetireEarlyLifestyle.com. Instead of linking to: http://www.retireearlylifestyle.com/ I get https://thefranceproject.wordpress.com/2013/07/15/taking-care-of-your-mail-when-traveling-for-an-extended-period/RetireEarlyLifestyle.com and it says Page not found.

Thank you again for mentioning us — we appreciate it. Let us know if you have any questions or if we can assist you in your fabulous journey in any way. Best to you! Akaisha Kaderli

  3. Hi Deborah,

I love how small the world is! I was working on an entry for my site and your post on managing your mail caught my attention (in the similar content section).

I started browsing around on your site and I discovered the above comments from Akaisha. I tell you, it’s a small world – she and I have been chatting back and forth for the past few weeks as she’s doing a series of articles on my site about retiring.

I love how you’re following your dreams! I also love how you’ve been taking it one step at a time. My site is trying to bring people together who are doing just that – living the life they WANT – to share their stories of how they made it possible to encourage others to do the same.

I’d love for you to have a quick look if you have some time and see if you’d be up for sharing your story.

It would be great to hear back from you either way. Sorry, I tried to write privately to you but I can’t see any contact page on your blog.

    Cheers,
    Krista

    • Hi Krista! Thanks for you note. I’ll take a look at your site, it sounds great! I believe living the life we WANT is crucial for our happiness. Unfortunately, people often forget that. I applaud your efforts to encourage people to live their dreams. I hope I can inspire people as well.
      Cheers!
      Deborah

  4. Hi Deborah!

First- thanks very much for the follow and support on my blog- you’re sweeter than a bakery!

Second- your blog is excellent! I’ve never been to France (or Sacramento) before, but I’ll tell ya, your writing makes it sound great! Looking forward to following you!

    Much success,
    -Andrew
